Obituary for Irving "Irv" Hornstein, DDS

Irving Hornstein, DDS, age 78, of Buffalo Grove, died peacefully on Friday, January 22nd. He was the beloved husband of Diane, nee Geller; cherished father of Tami (Howard) Hammersley, Cheri (David) Kates, and Aliza (Jason) Pestine; adored Zeide of Lauren, Jessica, Evan, Danielle, Aaron, Nicole, Ethan, Maddy and Aden. Born in Przemysl, Poland to the late Otylia (Geitzholtz) and Chiel Hornstein, Irv fled Poland for Tashkent, and later Karaganda, and Siberia Russia. Suffering the loss of many family members from war and disease, Irv and his mother made their way to Havana, Cuba, where he lived for two years, before arriving in the United States in 1950. Irv attended Talmudic Academy in N.Y., Brooklyn College, and Long Island University, and graduated from Temple Dental School in 1965. He served with distinction as Army Captain on Okinawa treating casualties of the Vietnam War. He was in private practice in Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Fairfield, Connecticut for thirty-three years, and continued to practice dentistry in Illinois for another ten years. Funeral service Monday, 10:00 a.m. at The Chapel, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove (1 blk N. of Lake Cook Rd.). Interment Westlawn Cemetery, Norridge.
