Obituary for Peter Salter

Peter  Salter
Peter Salter, beloved husband of Ruth Alpert Salter, passed away on April 14, 2018.
Peter was born on September 15, 1936, in Düsseldorf, Germany. A Holocaust survivor, he immigrated to the United States in 1958. He joined the U.S. Army in 1960, where he served for two years. He became a naturalized citizen of his new, beloved country in 1963.
Peter and Ruth were married in 1963, and lived in West Haverstraw, New York, for eight years, where they had two children, Deborah and Eric. They moved to Palatine, Illinois, in 1973, where they lived for 34 years. Peter worked for Exportadora, Inc. for 13 years and then started his own successful export management company, PNR International.
Peter became very active at the Palatine Public Library. He served on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Library as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president. During that time, he was instrumental in purchasing a new Bookmobile. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Palatine Public Library and served for 12 years, holding the positions of secretary, treasurer, vice president and president. He retired from the Board when he and Ruth moved to Wheeling, Illinois.
Besides his wife of 54 years, Peter leaves his daughter Deborah Green, son Eric Salter, son-in-law Ed Green, daughter-in-law Heidi Kogelis Salter, and the lights of his life, his grandchildren Samantha Green, Alexandra Salter, Sydney Salter, Kayla Salter, and Kaia Green.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, at Goldman Funeral Group, 195 North Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove. Visitation begins at 1:15 p.m. Interment will be private. The family will be sitting Shiva at The Continental Restaurant, 788 South Buffalo Grove Road, Buffalo Grove, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital or JourneyCare Hospice.
