With great sadness I am writing to let you know that my mother Aviva died this afternoon. She did not have any pain at the end. She was 93 years old. My sister and her children saw her before she died.
Even though she was in a wheelchair and lived at a nursing home for the last six and a half years, she was engaged in activities and with the other residents. She had her mental faculties all the way to the end of her life.
While she lived, she was an excellent artist and was adept at water color, oil paint, charcoal and also clay sculpture. She had a green thumb and loved her house plants. She enjoyed reading, especially about health. She was kind to animals and took pity on many of the stray cats in Giv’at HaMoreh.
She was very brave to move to the US at the age of 84 and it was definitely a difficult transition for her. I know that she greatly missed all of her friends and family in Israel. She had many challenges in her life and did the best she could.
I will miss her greatly. She was a big part of my life for these past almost 10 years.
I hope you will think of Aviva fondly as you remember the times that you spent with her.
