Dear Joan: Thank you for being a good friend. I treasure the fun times we had to together. I am going to take your charisma, cut it up in little pieces and sprinkle it out to the whole world. Those who are lucky enough to catch a piece will be truly pleased. Rest in peace.

Joan was the kind of woman I have never seen before. She had such elegance and grace, treated everyone (from all walks of like) with respect and dignity. Her staff was as gracious as she was. Always a giver. She embraced my son Richard and I (Eli's niece and great nephew) when we moved to California, and treated us immediately as family. She welcomed us into her beautiful desert home and never worried about the kids breaking any of the things. She would say, "It's just stuff." Most of our time over the course of 13 years was informal, but I do recall those formal Passover diners. The table was set for royalty; and it was just her family. Richard and I will forever remember her warm smile, generous and loving heart, and making her laugh out loud leaving her breathless. She was truly one of a kind! We will miss her dearly. A life lived well indeed.

I remember sitting together at a Brazilian steakhouse in Tel Aviv, sharing our mutual love of organ meat. To this day, I have not met anyone else who had the same enthusiasm for chicken livers and chicken hearts.

To the entire Holland family, my heartfelt condolences for all the generations. I have always known what an amazing family you have but after “attending” the service today, the love and life of Joan was contagious and uplifting. The entire family spoke eloquently, including Ed (articulate & slow per mom), and I believe everyone walked away with their heads held a little higher. What an incredible woman! Laura summed it best for me, “Elegant Bad ***”. I feel privileged to have met her and listen to her to speak some 20 years ago. She is a force to be reckoned with…

Much love from Texas,

My father, Sol Benensohn, was Joan's OB/Gyn, and she adored him. When Lindy married Aaron, who's Best Man was my son (named for my Dad), I had the privilege of seeing Joan frequently. She would always regale me with stories of my Dad--her favorites the time (s) she didn't make it to the hospital! I was so fond of her! She was a great lady, a grande dame, elegant and warm.
David joins me in send our deep felt condolences to all her family. May her memory be a blessing.
Love,
Karen & David Sager
