Obituary for Lauren Beth Kelly

Lauren Beth Kelly (nee Mendeloff), cherished wife, mother, daughter, and friend died Sunday, March 20, 2022, at the age of 38 in Chicago. She is survived by her loving husband Dan, sons Jack (6) and Gabe (3), parents Fay Wanetick and John Mendeloff, in-laws Adrienne and David Kelly, sister-in-law Rachel Kelly as well as a village of friends and loved ones.

A lifelong friend, Lauren brought authenticity, loyalty, and kindness to her journey. Lauren was born in San Diego, but spent most of her childhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She developed life-long friends at her high school in Fox Chapel and later college at Emory University. Despite being a high-performing student with many extracurriculars, Lauren was never too busy to help a friend in need. Lauren loved spending time at the beach, trying out new Mexican food, and relaxing and having a laugh on the couch with friends. She loved her family, her friends, and was very giving - always wanting to make sure everyone else had what they needed.

She joined Deloitte after graduating college from Emory where she would embark on a 15 year career. Up until the end, Lauren remained dedicated to making the world a better place by helping people become happier with their jobs. She was an accomplished People team leader at Deloitte where her colleagues remember Lauren for “her kind smile, her ability to lift others up around her, and her unwavering loyalty.”

It was in Chicago that Lauren was introduced to Dan in 2010 by mutual friend Darren Gest and they married in 2014. Dan brought out Lauren’s confidence, made her smile shine brighter and made her laugh even more frequent. Lauren dreamed about becoming a mother growing up, joking that she wanted to “field a baseball team”. Lauren leaves behind a team of 6 year old Jack and 3 year old Gabe and their furry son, dog Otis, at their home in Lincoln Park.

Lauren died after a multi-year battle with cancer. She managed incredible difficulty with grace, setting an indelible example for her sons. She was an inspiration to all who knew her both before, during, and after this fight. She loved deeply and was deeply loved.
