Obituary for Raymond Phillip Gordon

Raymond Phillip Gordon, age 72, of Wilmette, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and best friend to many passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021. While Ray, an accomplished lawyer, loved the law, that love was eclipsed by his love and dedication to family, Ray’s true motivation in life. Ray’s seven grandchildren, all of whom he called by their first and middle name, Chase Matthew, Russell Samuel, Lily Gene, William Eugene, Gavin Eli, Abigail Freed, and Ethan Fridstein, were his sun and his moon. While Ray held many titles in life, none was of greater importance or meaning to him than that of Papa Ray Ray. His three children and their spouses Amanda and Ben, Doug and Debbie, and Carly and Harley were his stars and guiding lights. He rejoiced and celebrated their personal and professional accomplishments more than his own. But while his grandchildren were his sun and moon, and his children his stars, it was the love of literally his whole life, Peggy, that was his entire universe. Middle school sweethearts, Ray and Peggy were married for 52 amazing years. Traveling the world, raising a family and seeking countless adventures was the hallmark of their remarkable, inspiring and inseparable lifelong partnership. While nothing was more important to Ray than family, his cherished collection of friends from every walk of life came in a very close second. Friends from middle school, high school, college, his years of raising children as well as friends he made with numerous taxi drivers, grocery store clerks and building staff were a constant source of joy, inspiration, and support for Ray, who would at the drop of a hat be there for any of them. Ray, the grandson of Louis and Ida Aaron and Maurice and Mayme Gordon, the son of Eugene and Charlotte Gordon and the brother to Bruce and Marjorie Gordon, will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, sister, and brothers-in-laws, sisters in-law and nieces and nephews. The service will be livestreamed Tuesday, 12 Noon CDT at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com. Under Recent Services, click onto Ray’s photograph and scroll down to Service Details to view his service.
