Sheldon Welstein, age 91, of Cary, North Carolina, born on Chicago's West Side in the height of the depression; he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Roosevelt University. He worked for Fel-Pro, moved to Milwaukee to be a VP at Manpower, and then moved back to Chicago to trade on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Sheldon was active in numerous Chicago charities, he served on the board of the Council for Jewish Elderly. He retired to Cary, NC and was instrumental in the growth and transition of Congregation Beth Shalom from a traveling congregation to its own building in Raleigh. He was the beloved husband and best friend for 68 years of Gloria May Welstein, nee Steinberg; loving father of Holly (Stuart Rojstaczer) Welstein and Lisa (Steve Thompson) Horn Thompson; dear father-in-law of the late Michael Horn; adored grandfather of Claire Rojstaczer, Jessica (Rob) Costa, and Cory Thompson; proud great grandfather of Nora and Michelle Costa; devoted son of the late Harry and the late Jennie Welstein; fond brother of the late Robert (late Eleanor) Welstein and late Charlotte (late Sam) Greenberg; treasured uncle and friend to many.
