A Taharah is the Jewish tradition of washing, purifying, and preparing the body for a Traditional Jewish Funeral Service. The taharah is carried out by a group of volunteers called the Chevra Kadisha. The group, either men or women depending on the gender of the deceased, then performs the steps of the taharah, which many view as being one of the greatest mitzvot that one can perform.
